What is CPD?
We have all heard of CPD but what does it mean? CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. It refers to the process of tracking and documenting the learning, skill development, knowledge building and experience that you gain both formally and informally as you work/study, beyond any initial training you have been involved in. Your CPD record shows the experience you have gained, what you have learned and how you have then been able to apply that into your working practice. Individuals use CPD training to complete a portfolio documenting their development as a professional and identify gaps within their skills base or capabilities.
What is it For?
The CPD process helps you manage your own development on an ongoing basis. Its function is to help you record, review and reflect on what you learn. It’s not a tick-box exercise to keep your employer happy, it should be viewed as a tool to help you develop as a professional and a record to show the steps you have taken to improve yourself. CPD can also be mandatory for some membership bodies. Many of them expect all of their members to keep records of their ongoing CPD, of which samples are inspected on an ongoing basis. If a member cannot demonstrate that they undertake CPD then they may have their membership downgraded. Other membership bodies state that CPD is a voluntary requirement until you reach a certain level of membership, at which point it becomes mandatory.
Course Types
eLearning courses are designed to be interactive to help learners stay focused and engaged in the learning they are faced with.
The courses require the learner to perform small actions within the course, revealing further information, or quiz questions to help them reflect upon previous course content they have studied.
All eLearning courses are CPD accredited and have a Multiple-Choice Question paper at the end to assess learning.
